Finnentrop/Sauerland, 15 December 2009 - Metten Fleischwaren are preparing for the traditional stampede for sausages at the end of the year at their modern plant in Frielentrop. The production of the no. 3 on the national sausage market is running at full speed. Background: according to the figures of the market research company GfK, sausages and potato salad are still THE typical Christmas meal in Germany.
Who would have thought: around a third of all German households traditionally serve sausages and potato salad on Christmas Eve. But the demand for sausages also increases to above average before New Year's Eve, according to GfK. They account for one out of every eight kilogrammes of shopping in the product assortments of meat, poultry and sausages. It has not been clarified where this custom originates from. However, the explanation that this meal is quite quick to cook and above all easy to prepare, is prevalent. And of course, it simply tastes good. On the list of the most popular Christmas meals, Christmas goose comes in second, closely followed by duck.
